Hearts and Balls is delighted to announce a new partnership with Rugby Memories, the charity creating a network of recreational and cultural activities, centred around the sport of rugby, for those whose lives are challenged by ill health, hardship or deprivation.
With its beginnings in Grangemouth – itself an area of severe deprivation – the organisation originally involved those challenged by dementia and has grown to include the lonely and isolated, with its aim to create a network of reminiscence cafes in rugby clubs across the country. The charity currently circulates its ‘The Rugby Piper’ newsletter, featuring relevant activities and resources, around interested rugby clubs.
“Memories are powerful things and can be very effective in developing communication skills, as well as boosting morale, self-confidence and self-esteem,” says Michael White of Rugby Memories. “We’re trying to reconnect people with their love of the game through the use of still images, memorabilia and short film clips.”
The common aims of inclusivity and assistance for those challenged through hardship is central to both organisations, as Michael continues:
“Rugby Memories is looking forward to a successful partnership with The Hearts and Balls Charitable Trust. Both charities share similar aims and their volunteers know and understand just what the game meant to people.”
Chair of The Hearts and Balls Charitable Trust, Hugh Dan MacLennan says, “The work being done by Rugby Memories is vital in tackling a number of challenges faced by those with an interest in rugby, whether that’s a former player, supporter or volunteer.
“By developing relationships such as these, we can ensure we extend the inclusivity of our sport for all.”
